About Syracuse Ceramic Guild

Dorothy Reister, one of the founding members of the Syracuse Ceramic Guild.

It all started when…

Members of the Faculty of the Syracuse University Fine Arts Department, staff of the Syracuse Museum of Art (now the Everson Museum of Art) and professional and amateur potters in the community joined forces in 1947 to establish a structure to share their knowledge of and enthusiasm for the ceramic arts.  Their efforts acknowledged the early 20th century ground-breaking career of Syracuse ceramic pioneer Adelaide Alsop Robineau.

Today the Syracuse Ceramic Guild is a not-for-profit organization of potters living and working throughout Central New York dedicated to mutual support and sharing of materials, techniques and innovations, while promoting community awareness and appreciation of the nature and diversity of the ceramic medium. To support its educational mission, the Guild maintains an active program of lectures, workshops, and demonstrations; collective sales of members’ work; and public service activities including recognition of student achievement in the ceramic arts, in addition to its regular membership meetings.
