Paul Molesky is graciously hosting a Wood Firing event at his home this March. **Actual time is TBD—time in this event posting is a place holder.
Wood firing is a pottery technique that uses wood as fuel to fire pottery in a kiln. The process produces unique colors, textures, and glaze patterns on the pottery. The wood fire kiln is subject to heat, smoke, ash, and volatile minerals from the burning wood. The atmosphere inside the kiln shifts between reduction and oxidation. The wood ash melts and travels with the flame, touching the pots.
Directions and rules to participate.
1. Before the March wood firing, make your pots with high fire clay (ex: Bmix Wood)
2. Pots must be bisque fired ahead of March 1 (glaze date) by you.
3. March 1 (Saturday) is set for the Glaze your pot day. Paul has the glazes. Time TBD.
4. When the kiln is filled, a date will be set for the firing.
5. Participating people are required to attend and help with the firing.
6. Be cautious of your pots and glazing them – if the kiln shelf is damaged by your pot, you are responsible for cleaning it or possibly replacing it.
7. Suggested ware for wood firing - vase, mug, cylinder types. Avoid flat ware such as plates, these most likely will run glaze onto the shelf.
